Sawyer County Drug Investigation Results In Felony Charges

SAWYER COUNTY — Felony charges for delivery of cocaine have been filed in Sawyer County Circuit Court against Guy Mittlestadt, of Stone Lake, WI.

Mittlestadt allegedly made arrangements on numerous occasions to meet with and sell cocaine to individuals who were assisting law enforcement in a drug investigation, according to a criminal complaint filed against him in Sawyer County Circuit Court on August 8, 2019.

The alleged transactions date back to October 2018; with additional transactions occurring in December 2018, and then again in March 2019.

Law Enforcement Officers conducting surveillance as part of the drug investigation observed Mittlestadt’s vehicle on multiple occasions parked in the employee parking lot of the Hayward Elementary School before leaving the parking lot and then traveling to pre-arranged locations to complete the drug sale(s). The transactions occurred at various residences within Sawyer County.

On at least one occasion, a special agent with the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation went undercover to one of the sales, posing as a ‘friend’ of an individual already assisting law enforcement. During the meeting, the undercover agent, while wearing a recording device, discussed with Mittlestadt how much it would cost to purchase a larger amount of cocaine. Mittlestadt stated that he thought the price would be around ‘“1,000” for a 1⁄2 ounce.

Mittlestadt allegedly went on to tell the undercover agent, “I’m a teacher, no one needs to know about this.”

Mittlestadt is charged with 4 counts of Class F Felony Manufacture/Deliver Cocaine (>1G but <=5G) and 1 count of Class G Felony Manufacture/Deliver Cocaine (<=1G). If convicted of all charges filed against him, Mittlestadt faces a total potential maximum penalty of 60 years imprisonment.

At a bail hearing on August 8, 2019, the Court placed Mittlestadt on a $1,000 cash bail bond with conditions requiring him to maintain absolute sobriety, be subject to daily testing, and upon release from Jail report to the Sawyer County Addiction Intervention Program (S-CAIP), according to online circuit court record. Mittlestadt is scheduled to make another court appearance in August 2019.
