Sarona Man To Have Jury Trial Following Reversal Of Sexual Assault Conviction

WASHBURN COUNTY -- A 5-day Jury Trial has been scheduled for Sarona, WI man, Russell Wilson on both of his Washburn County Circuit Court criminal cases in which he is charged with Repeated Sexual Assault Child and with Conspiracy to Commit 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.

DrydenWire reported in August 2020, that the Court of Appeals had reversed Wilson’s conviction of Class C Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of Child stemming from charges filed in 2015.

Wilson had previously been sentenced in 2016 to serve 20 years confinement in state prison on that conviction.

While in custody at the Washburn County Jail awaiting that sentencing hearing in 2016, Wilson allegedly conspired to hire a hitman to kill the victim of the sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 2015, the mother of the victim, and the mother's 'new boyfriend', according to a criminal complaint filed in Washburn County Circuit Court.

Wilson’s charges of Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Intentional Homicide and Solicitation of First Degree Intentional Homicide proceeded through circuit court while the appeal was pending on the conviction for sexual assault.

Following the Court of Appeals reversal of the sexual assault conviction, Wilson was placed on a $50,000 cash bond. Online records indicate that Wilson remains in custody at the Washburn County Jail at the time of this post.

At a hearing on December 30, 2020, the Court granted a motion by the State to join the two criminal cases together for purposes of a Jury Trial. The 5-day Jury Trial is set to be held at the end of March 2021 according to online Circuit Court records.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
