SACE: New Instructor for Valentine's DIY class

SACE: New Instructor for Valentine's DIY class

Boosting Value, Health, Satisfaction, and that Spicy Edge - DIY and Thai

Spooner Area Community Education (SACE) Instructor Offers Ways to Increase your Satisfaction, Pocket Book, Health Benefits, and Personal Expression

News Release -- Nikki Halverson, among our newest community education instructors, brings ways to boost value and satisfaction in household purchases while increasing health benefits. “It was like using laundry detergent or car wash on my skin when I used to buy commercial soaps,” explaining Nikki’s impetus for learning to make homemade soaps. “To overcome dry or irritated skin I choose which oils/ herbal supplements (coconut, olive, essential, or fragrant oils) to create soap now. I no longer wake up in the morning with raw scratches on my skin and, bonus; I know what chemicals my young son is exposed to. Knowing what goes into body care products I make protect my family’s skin; and using exfoliating agents (coffee grounds, rolled oats, poppy seeds…) makes for unique types of soaps to use and “gift” to friends.”

Nikki enjoys the challenge of learning new skills such as soap making, gardening, butchering a rooster (there is a story here, ask her some time), and cooking different cultural foods. “When I want to learn to do something, diving in to read about it or asking someone who already knows is fascinating. If it does not work out, oh well. Try it again.”

Nikki brings a wide-ranging background and strong community spirit. Embracing our Spooner area over a year ago to raise family out of the big city, Nikki keeps active through local business, organizations and volunteerism that emphasize her values around empowering others.

A varied background reveals how much Nikki is not afraid to learn something new, embrace self-discovery, and connect with those around her. Experiences in Mayana Chocolate, the district Farm to School Program, The Dock Coffee, an Organic Food Co-Op, a fair trade Coffee Roaster, and Sales and Catering for 4 star hotels, as well as attending culinary and massage therapy schools, and learning unique tips from her sister-in-law from Thailand come to the forefront in her approach to helping others pursue their passions.

Nikki’s active involvement in Moms Club of Northwest Wisconsin, serving on the Lakeland Family Resource Center board, volunteering in the Community Garden for Indianhead Community Action Agency families, and home-schooling her 4-year-old keeps her busy. Along with her husband, she is also turning their 5 acre wood lot into a plot boasting raised bed gardens, a micro orchard, and a mini herb garden.

Sharing quality, unique, “made for them” personal care gifts is another value-added reason Nikki wants to share some of her many DIY (Doing It Yourself) skills. Nikki is excited at how home-made soap and cooking saves money, is an artsy outlet for creativity, makes homes smell so fragrant, and especially tells that special someone that you are worth sharing my time.

Join our community in welcoming Nikki who is offering two classes this season to show you how to express your personality through DIYing it and add flair to winter dining like no other cuisine can:
