Rep. Milroy 'Strongly Considering' Run For 7th Congressional District Seat

Rep. Milroy 'Strongly Considering' Run For 7th Congressional District Seat

Wisconsin 73rd District Representative Nick Milroy (D-South Range) is strongly considering a run for U.S. 7th Congressional District seat.  On Monday, Representative Sean Duffy announced he would be resigning from the Congressional seat in September to help care for a child with health complications, thus opening the door for a special election.

Rep. Milroy posted on Facebook Monday that he would be 'taking a look at running for congress.' In a phone conversation with DrydenWire.com on Wednesday, Milroy said that he is “strongly considering" a run.

Rep. Milroy statement via Facebook:

"My heart goes out to Congressman Duffy and his family as they deal with pregnancy complications. Julie and I know all too well how difficult these complications can be, and how they are made even more difficult when you are in the public eye. We will keep the Duffy’s in our thoughts and prayers as they focus on their family and ask others to do the same while respecting their privacy.

"All too often families are forced to deal with unthinkable health issues and often times do not have adequate health insurance to give their loved ones the best care. I hope that more members of Congress come to the realization of the need for more affordable health care in our country. Quality health care should not be the privilege of the few but should be the standard for all.

"Northern Wisconsin deserves a congressperson who understands the struggles that families throughout the district face and who is willing to put people before politics. I have been honored to be able to serve in the Wisconsin legislature and have worked hard to improve the lives of all of the citizens of Wisconsin. Over the next couple of weeks, I will be taking a look at running for congress and having many conversations with my family and friends. I am humbled by the support and encouragement of those who have already reached out to me. We are blessed with so many great people in northern Wisconsin, I am confident that we will have a great candidate who will serve us well in congress."

It is not known at this time when a special election will be held. Governor Tony Evers is the one who picks the date for a Congressional seat vacancy and has yet to announce when that will be.
