Rep. Green Votes To Restore Education Standards

MADISON, WI -- Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after voting in favor of Assembly Bill 1, which will restore education standards in Wisconsin:

“What DPI and Superintendent Underly have done to public education has been an absolute disaster. Lowering the standards for schools and students to make the department look good has done more harm than good.

Moving away from the national standards set by the National Assessment of Educational Progress took away the opportunity to compare our education standards to those of other states.

I hope Governor Evers stands by his word by saying standards should be high and supports this bill.”

AB 1 will require that pupil assessment cut scores, score ranges, and pupil performance categories be aligned with the standards set out in the National Assessment of Educational Progress and that cut scores be reinstated to DPI’s 2019-20 standard.

The bill now heads to the State Senate.

Rep. Green also issued the following statement after Assembly Joint Resolution 2, which celebrates the 51st anniversary of the American Birkebeiner and proclaims February 17th to 23rd, 2025, as American Birkebeiner Week in Wisconsin, passed the Assembly:

“The Birkie is one of the biggest events in Northern Wisconsin, and having it in our backyard every year is always incredible. Seeing the impact it has on our communities is always great to see, and I am glad to recognize this event and bring forward this resolution.”
