Rep. Green Votes To Keep Violent Criminals Off The Street

Madison, WI – Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after voting in favor of Assembly Bill 66, which requires that a prosecutor get approval from the court before they can dismiss or amend certain charges:

"A prosecutor's job is to ensure that justice is served by prosecuting individuals accused of committing crimes. But unfortunately, sometimes, they can go rogue and become lenient on how they enforce laws.

This bill ensures that criminals responsible for serious crimes face repercussions for their actions. More importantly, this bill builds trust for the victims, knowing the criminals will be held accountable for their crimes. Everything must be done to keep violent criminals off our streets and our communities safe."

Those certain charges are:

  • Reckless driving that results in great bodily harm
  • First, second, or third-degree sexual assault
  • Abuse of an individual at risk
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Crimes against a child
  • Automobile theft
  • Domestic abuse or violation of a domestic violence temporary restraining order

AB 66 will now head to the State Senate for consideration.

Rep. Green also voted in favor of other crime-related bills. Those bills can be viewed here.
