Madison, WI – Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after voting in favor of Assembly Bill 24, which requires that county sheriffs attempt to verify citizenship status when an individual is booked into their jail for a felony crime:
“Immigration was one of the top issues in the last election. While the federal government is the lead when it comes to tackling immigration, states need to play a role as well. That is what this bill does. The bill will enable state and local law enforcement to work with ICE to ensure public safety in our state.
"It is pretty simple: illegal immigrants who commit felonies have no place in America and should be deported immediately. We have to establish law enforcement's ability to communicate with ICE when violent crimes occur—because the safety of our residents must always come first.”

Rep. Green also voted in favor of Assembly Bills 98, 99, and 101, which have to do with tribal relations throughout the state.
