Rep. Green Votes In Favor Of Truancy Package

MADISON -- Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the truancy package that was brought forth before the Assembly:

“Being on the Assembly Speaker's Task Force on Truancy, we heard from all sorts of groups what has caused truancy to go up in recent years. From the hearings we had and the reports we took in, these bills were produced because of them. These bills are a step in the right direction that involves parents and schools. I was glad to be part of the task force that brought this package forward.”

The truancy package would give parents notice from the school if their child is habitually truant, change the definition of truancy, restore accountability by creating a clear and reasonable attendance threshold, include truancy information proposed by DPI in each school district and school accountability report, and create a truancy reduction grant program.

This package heads to the State Senate for consideration.

Rep. Green also voted in favor of other bills such as AB 255, which creates a rural pharmacy practice grant program; AB 671, which would allow law enforcement retirees to return to work in a part-time capacity in order to fill staffing gaps; SB 780, which would increase the non-resident archer/crossbow hunting license from $162.25 to $197.25 when it comes to deer hunting; and SJR 117, requesting Governor Evers to send aid and resources to the U.S.-Mexico border to assist with immigration efforts.
