MADISON, WI -- Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following statement after listening to Governor Evers’ State of the State Address:
“It is good to know that Wisconsin is in surplus fiscally. This is thanks to the Republican Legislature, which was able to get rid of the governor’s original budget, which would have increased state spending and raised taxes on hardworking Wisconsinites.
I want to applaud the governor for signing the bipartisan Shared Revenue deal after he originally said he wanted to veto it, which increased the local government’s shared revenue by 20%. This was a huge win for my municipalities up in Northern Wisconsin and the rest of the state.
As the governor said, we have moved into the year 2024, which he announced is the “Year of the Worker”. Getting bipartisan workforce housing across the finish line earlier in the session was a huge win! This will help to attract and retain workers, but you also know what a good way to attract and retain workers is—cutting taxes to help families here in Wisconsin. I hope the governor can sign the tax legislation that Republicans proposed yesterday that would help the middle class, married couples, child care, and retirees.
When Republicans and Democrats can work together in a bipartisan manner, we can always move Wisconsin forward. Hopefully, we can keep striving for that as this session comes to a close.”
