Rep. Dave Armstrong Responds To State Of The State Address

MADISON, WI – Gov. Tony Evers presented his annual State of the State Address to the Legislature on January 22. State Rep. Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake) attended the speech.

“Governor Evers began his speech by announcing that the tax burden on Wisconsin families is the lowest it’s been in fifty years,”Representative Armstrong said. “That is indeed great news, but I have to smile when the Governor tries to take the credit. If he had had his way with the last state budget, Wisconsin taxes would have gone up $2 billion! Fortunately for Wisconsin taxpayers, the Republican Legislature has been – and will continue to be – serious about budgeting responsibly and spending within our means.

“There are some issues the Governor raised that definitely need to be addressed. For example, the cost of childcare, which I’ve been working on for years now, both as a legislator and as Barron County’s economic development director. I would like to think there are bipartisan strategies for critical problems like this, and all ideas should be on the table.

“Governor Evers will present his budget proposal to the Legislature next month. That will give us a much better sense of his priorities. I can say right now, though, that the big thing will be to make sure that one-time money isn’t used to create or fund ongoing programs that will leave Wisconsin taxpayers on the hook in the future.”
