MADISON, WI -- The Wisconsin State Assembly has passed a proposed constitutional amendment that would prohibit government entities from discriminating against protected groups. State Rep. Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake) joined his Republican colleagues in supporting this antidiscrimination measure.
“Assembly Joint Resolution 109 is very simple,” Representative Armstrong said. “Government entities may not discriminate against or give preferential treatment on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin when it comes to public employment, education, contracting, or administration. This amendment applies to the state, counties, municipalities, school districts, UW and technical college schools, etc.
“These divisive practices are wrong in the private sector, and they are just as wrong in the public sector.”
AJR 109 will now go to the Senate for further consideration. If the Senate approves AJR 109 before the 2023-2024 session ends, the Legislature must pass identical language in the 2025-2026 session in order for the amendment to go to a statewide referendum.
