BARRON COUNTY — Cumberland, WI man Kurtes Dawson, age 24, has been ordered to serve a prison sentence on his recent conviction of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child in Barron County.
DrydenWire.com reported in August 2018, that Dawson was facing charges after an investigation revealed that he had sexually assaulted a 15-year-old female on multiple occasions.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Dawson he admitted that he knew the female was 15 years of age and also admitted that he had sent inappropriate images to the female.
Charges of Class C Felony Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 Years of Age and Class I Felony Exposing a Child to Harmful Materials were filed against Dawson in August 2018.
At a hearing in December 2018, the Court accepted Dawson’s plea of Guilty to the charge of Class C Felony Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 Years of Age. The charge of Class I Felony Exposing a Child to Harmful Materials was dismissed but read in.
Dawson appeared for a sentencing hearing on February 25, 2019 and after hearing from both Prosecution and Defense Counsel, the Court ordered an 18 year sentence for Dawson: 8 years of initial confinement (with 181 days of credit for time served), to be followed by 10 years of extended supervision.
This sentence will be served concurrently with Dawson’s prison sentence on another Barron County case in which Dawson’s probation was revoked following the 2018 charges, and he was sentenced to serve 9 months in county jail on 3 counts of Misdemeanor 4th Degree Sexual Assault from criminal charges that were filed in 2015.
Additionally, Dawson is facing another sentencing after revocation of probation in Polk County Circuit Court on charges of Class C Felony Sexual Assault of a Child and Misdemeanor 4th Degree Sexual Assault. Those charges were filed against Dawson in 2016, and his probation was revoked following the 2018 Barron County charges. Dawson is scheduled to be sentenced on the Polk County case in April 2019.
In yet another criminal case that was pending against Dawson in St. Croix County, in October 2018, a deferred sentence agreement for Dawson was canceled and he was ordered to serve 30 days in jail for a conviction of Domestic Abuse Disorderly Conduct.
Dawson has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life; comply with any and all sex offender treatment; and complete any and all evaluations, counseling, treatment, and follow-up recommended by the Department of Corrections. Dawson is also prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with any minors, other than his own child.

A Cumberland, WI man is facing charges of Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 Years of Age and Exposing a Child to Harmful Materials in Barron County Circuit Court.
A criminal complaint was filed against Kurtes Dawson, of Cumberland, WI, on August 14, 2018 charging him with Class C Felony Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 Years of Age and Class I Felony Exposing a Child to Harmful Materials.
The criminal complaint states that on May 25, 2018, the Cumberland Police Department received a report that Dawson had been sending sexually inappropriate text messages including photos to an underage female, aged 15.
Investigating officers conducted an interview with the underage female’s mother who said that she had knowledge that Dawson had sexual intercourse with the underage female.
Officers then conducted interviews with the underage female, who stated that between April and May 2018, Dawson had sexual intercourse with her multiple times. She went on to tell officers that Dawson knew she was in high school because she told him she was going to be 16.
When officers showed the underage female a sexually inappropriate photo reported to have been sent to her by Dawson, she confirmed that she had received it from him.
Interviews were conducted with Dawson, who allegedly stated that he knew the female was 15 years old, and that he had sex with her two times. According to the criminal complaint, Dawson later stated that he may have had intercourse with her four times. Dawson also confirmed that he had sent the sexually inappropriate picture to the underage female.
Dawson is scheduled to make an initial appearance on his charges in Barron County Circuit Court on August 29, 2018. At the time of this post no information is listed as to any bail bond conditions for Dawson.
Online circuit court records show that in December 2016, Dawson plead No Contest to charges of Class C Felony 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of Child and Misdemeanor 4th Degree Sexual Assault in a Polk County Circuit Court case, and was placed on a Deferred Judgment Agreement at that time.
According to online circuit court records, Dawson is also on a Deferred Agreement in a St. Croix County Circuit Court case that was filed against him in June of 2016 charging him with Class H Felony Bail Jumping and Misdemeanor Domestic Disorderly Conduct.
Details of these other cases filed against Dawson are not known to DrydenWire.com at this time.
