Prison Ordered On Conviction Of Child Enticement & Attempted Child Sexual Assault

BARRON COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a man to serve time in State Prison for his convictions stemming from an undercover sex crime sting which led to criminal charges.

DrydenWire.com previously reported in March 2019, that Joshua Studer of Deer Park, WI, was facing criminal charges following an undercover sex crime sting by the Rice Lake Police Department.

Studer responded to an online advertisement that was posted by an undercover police officer, according to the criminal complaint filed against him in Barron County Circuit Court. Numerous text messages were exchanged between Studer and undercover law enforcement during which messages were sent to Studer indicating that he was communicating with an underage female.

A law enforcement officer engaged in a text conversation with Studer on March 16, 2019, in which the Officer again indicated themselves to be a 15-year-old female and asked if that would scare Studer off. Studer responded: “I am super scared and nervous as hell. But if it’s a sting so be it. Risk it for a life experience.”

A meeting was arranged and Studer traveled to Rice Lake, WI; when Officers made contact with him at the arranged meeting place and took Studer into custody, they located condoms, a bottle of lubrication, some black rope, a whip and other items of sexual activity paraphernalia in his van along with over 16 grams of marijuana inside a backpack in the van.

Studer was charged with Class C Felony Use Of A Computer To Facilitate A Child Sex Crime, Class C Felony Attempt Sexual Assault Of A Child Under 16 Years of Age, Class D Felony Child Enticement, and Misdemeanor Possession of THC.

At a hearing on January 16, 2020, the Court sentenced Studer on convictions of Class C Felony Attempt Sexual Assault Of A Child Under 16 Years of Age, Class D Felony Child Enticement. His other charges were dismissed but read in at a plea hearing in October 2019.

The Court ordered a 10-year sentence for Studer on his conviction for Class D Felony Child Enticement; 3 years of initial confinement in State Prison followed by 7 years of extended supervision. For the conviction of Class C Felony Attempt Sexual Assault Of A Child Under 16 Years of Age, the Court ordered a 6-year prison sentence; 3 years of initial confinement in State Prison followed by 3 years of extended supervision. Studer received credit for 88 days of time already served and will serve his sentences concurrently.

Studer must complete any and all evaluations, counseling, treatment, and follow-up recommended by his Probation Agent and he must undergo sex offender treatment and follow through with any recommendations of that treatment. He also must register as a sex offender.
