POLK COUNTY — Polk County will host a public open house to gather input on the development of a Countywide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, in collaboration with the West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.
The open house will be held at the Polk County Government Center on Monday, February 16th, from 6pm to 7:30 pm in the County Board Room. It’s located at 100 Polk County Plaza in Balsam Lake.
The goal of the plan is to identify bicycle and pedestrian needs in the County and improve the safety of routes, along with connecting Polk County communities, amenities, and the greater region. The Plan relied on extensive geographic information system (GIS) analysis and mapping to determine potential routes, corridors, and trails.
Previously, a public survey and open house were conducted for input at the beginning of the planning process to learn about the habits and opinions regarding bicycling and walking and the conditions of existing infrastructure. Additionally, an Advisory Committee made up of local elected officials and bicycle and pedestrian advocates provided input and guidance for the development of the draft plan.
More information about the plan, including the draft plan, can be found here.
