Active Shooter Alarm At 3M In Cumberland Determined To Be ‘False Alarm’

CUMBERLAND, WI — Multiple law enforcement agencies responded on Wednesday to an active shooter alarm at 3M in Cumberland, Wisconsin. This was later determined to be a ‘false alarm,’ according to a press release from the Cumberland Police Department.

On November 1, 2023, at approximately 12:48 p.m., Barron County Dispatch was advised of an active shooter alarm at 3M in Cumberland. Most of the 3M employees evacuated the building prior to law enforcement's arrival.

The Cumberland Elementary School (which is in close proximity to 3M) was advised to lock down, which they did.

Cumberland Police Department arrived on scene and immediately made entry into the building to search for an active shooter. Additional law enforcement arrived on the scene and joined the search of the building. Law enforcement located several employees hiding within the building during the search and all were brought to safety. There was no threat located inside the building and it was determined to be a false alarm.

An investigation is ongoing regarding how the alarm was activated.
