Press Release -- On Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at approximately 1900hrs, a WI State Trooper was on routine patrol on CHY M just east of Osceola, WI when he observed a truck driving erratically. When the Trooper attempted to stop the truck, it attempted to elude him and a pursuit ensued southbound on 240th St. from CHY M.
The suspect vehicle was reported to have been traveling in excess of 80mph, and continued to attempt to flee the Trooper until the driver lost control and left the roadway, striking a tree east of 240th St. just north of 50th Ave. When the Trooper arrived, the driver had already fled on foot east from the crash scene. It was then determined that the truck had been reported stolen out of Minnesota earlier in the day.
Polk Co. Deputies, Osceola PD Officer Morgel and K9 Riko, and WI DNR Wardens responded to the area to assist. A perimeter was established surrounding the area east and north of the crash scene. A K9 track was initiated and after approximately one hour of searching through heavily wooded and swampy terrain, the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. The suspect was found to have suspected methamphetamine on his person.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the WI State Patrol, Osceola PD, the WI DNR and the Polk Co. Deputies for swiftly and safely resolving this incident with a high degree of professionalism and teamwork.
Further details as to the identity of the suspect will be released once criminal charges have been filed.
