Patty Schachtner, former Wisconsin State Senator is a lifelong resident of St Croix County, announced today that she is running for the 28th Assembly District. The newly-drawn District 28 represents Wisconsinites in Polk Co. along with parts of the Town and Village of Somerset and the City of New Richmond and Star Prairie Township.
“The Wisconsin motto is FORWARD,” said Schachtner, “but Wisconsin’s elected Republicans like Gae Magnafici are taking us backward and I cannot sit back and watch it happen.”
Added Schachtner, “Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly support common-sense policies investing in our schools, tax breaks focused on the working class families who need them, and protecting the reproductive freedom of every American. But our Representatives in Madison have embraced radical policies at the expense of their constituents, and now are poised to take us back to 1853 should the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade.”
Schachtner is a graduate of Somerset High School and WITC. She has worked as an EMT and First responder and is currently the St. Croix County Chief Medical Examiner. She is the President of the Board of Directors of Turningpoint for Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence. Schachtner has experience as a member of her local Board of Education and Town Board.
“We need a representative who believes in equality,'' concluded Schachtner. “Voters in the deeply-gerrymandered 28th district deserve representation that shares their values, and I want to ensure we have a representative that will listen to all constituents of the 28th.”
A lifelong resident of Somerset, Patty and her husband Joe have been married for 43 years. They have 6 grown children and 12 grandchildren. Joe is retired and Patty is a part-time student at Northwoods College utilizing her passion for lifelong learning by pursuing a degree in Gerontology.
