Northwood Tech Steps Up: Shoe Drive Fundraiser Supports Local While Empowering Global Communities

Northwood Technical College is proud to announce its upcoming shoe drive fundraiser from April 1-15, 2024. As an institution committed to community engagement and global impact, Northwood Tech is partnering with Funds2Orgs to collect gently worn, used, and new shoes.

During this initiative, Northwood Tech will earn funds based on the total weight of the collected shoes. Funds2Orgs will issue a check corresponding to the collected shoes, with the proceeds used to support Rice Lake students. Donations of gently worn, used, and new shoes are welcomed at the following collection points:

  • Northwood Tech Rice Lake Campus Hub and Conference Center Entrance
  • Chetek Public Library
  • Rice Lake Chamber of Commerce
  • Rice Lake City Hall
  • Rice Lake High School
  • Rice Lake Public Library
  • Shoe Sensations

At the time of your donation drop-off, please feel free to take a photo of yourself and your donation, post it to your social media using the hashtag #shoes4students, and tag Northwood Technical College in your post.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One emerging entrepreneur in Haiti even generated sufficient funds to send her son to law school.

"We are excited about our shoe drive fundraiser to support our Northwood Tech Rice Lake students," said Becka Cusick, Rice Lake Alumni Association Board member. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets, so it is an easy way for the community to raise funds for our students. Besides assisting our students, we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a win-win endeavor.”

By donating gently worn, used, and new shoes to Northwood Tech’s shoe drive fundraiser, individuals can provide these items with a second chance while making a positive difference in the lives of people worldwide.
