No Criminal Charges In Barron County Motorcycle Fatality

BARRON COUNTY — The Barron County District Attorney has announced that no criminal charges will be filed against the driver involved in a fatal motorcycle collision on September 29, 2024, though the driver has been cited for making an improper left turn resulting in death.

On September 29, 2024 at approximately 3:00 PM, deputies with the Barron County Sheriff's Department responded to the report of a traffic accident at the intersection of County Highway W and 19th Street, in Barron County. Upon arrival, deputies determined that a vehicle and motorcycle had collided as the vehicle which was traveling eastbound on County Highway W was turning left onto 19th Street.

The motorcycle was traveling westbound on County Highway W and struck the right front (passenger side) of the vehicle. The operator of the motorcycle was fatally injured as a result of the crash.

No criminal charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle involved in this accident.

The driver of the vehicle slowed to a safe speed before turning left onto 19th Street. It is the opinion of the Crash Reconstruction Specialist, with the Wisconsin State Patrol, that the operator of the motorcycle was traveling at or near the posted speed limit of 45 mph on County Highway W when the accident happened. No braking marks for either the vehicle or motorcycle were observed prior to the accident happening. The driver of the vehicle stated she never saw the motorcycle coming.

The driver of the vehicle consented to the collection of a blood sample from her for analysis by the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene.

No ethanol or drugs were detected in the blood sample.

The driver of the vehicle involved in this fatal accident has been issued a citation for making an improper left turn resulting in death to another, contrary to Sections 346. 18(2) and 346.22(1)(e) of the Wisconsin Statutes.
