No Charges Filed In Fatal Ladysmith UTV Crash

RUSK COUNTY — The Rusk County District Attorney has announced no charges will be filed in a UTV crash that claimed the life of Daniel J. Rydlund in Ladysmith, following an investigation that included blood alcohol analysis of the driver, Grant D. Rydlund.

PRESS RELEASE

On September 27, 2024, at approximately 11:23p Rusk County Dispatch received a call about a UTV crash on Mae West Road in the City of Ladysmith. When Sheriff Deputies arrived on the scene they discovered two injured individuals, Grant D. Rydlund and Daniel J. Rydlund. Daniel J. Rydlund later died from his injuries.

During the course of the investigation into the accident, the driver of the UTV, Grant D. Rydlund admitted to having one or two beers before the accident.

As a result of that statement, the matter was investigated as a potential Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle, and blood was drawn from Grant Rydlund and sent to the State Crime Laboratory for analysis. On or about December 4, 2024, the results from that analysis were received by the Sheriff’s Department with a reported value of .022 g/100mL.

This matter was referred to the District Attorney’s Office for review for potential charges. I have reviewed the facts and do not believe there is sufficient evidence to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Daniel J. Rydlund was the victim of a criminal offense, and accordingly no charges, or citations, will be issued.
