NIGC Issues Notice Of Proposed Civil Fine To St. Croix Tribe

A Notice of Proposed Civil Fine Assessment has been issued to the St. Croix Chippewa Indians, headquartered in Burnett County, Wisconsin. Jonodev Chadhuri, Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission, proposed the total fines to be $5.5 Million.

DrydenWire.com was first to report that the National Indian Gaming Commission had issued a Notice of Violation to the St. Croix Chippewa Indians. The Notice of Violation stated that the Tribe used net-gaming revenue for purposes other than those permitted.

In this Notice (see below), Chairman Chadhuri states that although the Tribe may be in a financial crisis, the financial violations alleged against the St. Croix Chippewa Indians, including misuse of revenues, have damaged the Tribe itself.

The Tribe has the right to appeal this Notice of Proposed Civil Fine Assessment.
