POLK COUNTY — Nick Otlo has announced his candidacy for Polk County Sheriff in the 2026 election, according to a campaign announcement submitted to DrydenWire from Otlo.
ANNOUNCEMENT
Hello, my name is Nick Otlo, and I am planning to run for Polk County Sheriff in 2026. I am running to ensure that the Sheriff’s Department serves the citizens of Polk County in the way we deserve to be served.
I am a former employee of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, where I worked as a member of the corrections staff. I have spent my entire adult life serving our communities in multiple capacities — including ambulance services, the Luck Fire Department (where I currently serve as Assistant Chief), corrections staff, and as a Deputy Medical Examiner. I take great pride in being well-rounded in emergency services and understanding how these agencies should work together and coordinate effective response tactics.
I am running with the following four promises to the citizens of Polk County:
First, under my leadership, the Sheriff’s Department will be better prepared and more adequately trained to handle the possibility of violence within any of our schools. I promise to work to ensure that our children are as safe as they can possibly be.
Second, under my leadership and guidance, the Sheriff’s Department will work more cooperatively with all other emergency services. Jailers, dispatchers, deputies, municipal officers, fire departments, and ambulance personnel will all have opportunities to train together, communicate more effectively, and respond more efficiently to all types of emergency situations. By doing so, I promise to make Polk County a safer place to live.
Third, I promise to bring common sense back to leadership in Polk County, with an emphasis on employee retention, public transparency, and accountability. Positive change is possible, and I will implement that change from the top down.
Fourth and finally, I ask that you put your trust in me. Elect me Sheriff, and I promise to earn that trust every day — so that when re-election time comes, the choice will be obvious.
Elect Nick Otlo for Sheriff, and together we will make Polk County a safer place to call home.
