WASHBURN COUNTY — Mosaic Technologies invites Washburn County residents to a public engagement meeting on January 22, 2025, to discuss broadband expansion efforts and gather community input for a BEAD grant application, according to an announcement from Mosaic Technologies.

ANNOUNCEMENT

As Mosaic Technologies and Washburn County have been working tirelessly to bring affordable broadband access to the county, we now need public engagement and input for Mosaic Technologies' BEAD application. The WI PSC has been entrusted with $1.05B from the federal government for broadband infrastructure throughout the state. The WI PSC has opened its Internet for All: BEAD grant program for broadband providers to apply for grant funding for their construction projects.

The point structure associated with the grant includes a section called County Endorsement and Public Engagement. The point values are as follows:

  • County Endorsement- 7 points
  • Township Resolution/Letter of Support- 2 points
  • Community Anchor Institution Letter of Support- 1 point
  • Public Engagement Meeting- 2 points

Total points- 12 possible

Mosaic Technologies has received Washburn County's endorsement and has been traveling throughout the county presenting to townships and assessing the critical broadband needs of the county. Now, more than ever, as a community, it is important to attend this meeting, express your need and interest in broadband services. Mosaic Technologies will be collecting letters of support and surveys from the community during this meeting. Mosaic will highlight the BEAD program timeline, present our assessment of eligible broadband areas, and allow time for questions and discussion.

The data collected from the meeting will be compiled and submitted with the Washburn County BEAD grant application.

We are making every effort to get in front of as many Washburn County residents as possible to let them know we are fighting for broadband infrastructure and affordable access for their communities.

The meeting will take place on January 22, 2025, at 6p at the Washburn County Government Center located at 304 2nd Street, Shell Lake WI.
