Thousands of protestors took to the Wisconsin State Capitol Tuesday to show their support for abortion rights, after a leaked Supreme Court opinion showed the court was likely to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Organizers say the protest, which was organized by Madison Socialist Alternative, was meant to show group support and call on lawmakers to codify the Roe v. Wade decision.

Attorney General Josh Kaul Questions Enforceability Of 173-Year-Old Abortion Ban

A 173-year-old abortion ban in Wisconsin could go back into effect as early as this summer if a draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court takes effect — but questions over the ban’s enforceability are already looming.

The ban, approved by the state Legislature in 1849, makes providing an abortion a felony, with penalties of up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000. The statute has been unenforceable since 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade. However, Politico reported Monday evening that the nation’s highest court may be poised to overturn Roe v. Wade within the next few months.

WisDot, Donald Driver Urge Seat Belt Use To Prevent Tragedies

Buckling up is one of the most important things every driver and passenger can do to stay safe in a crash. Former Packers star Donald Driver is once again teaming up with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to raise awareness of this simple safety step, kicking off the annual Click It or Ticket campaign at a news conference in Milwaukee.

Wisconsin’s seat belt use is dropping. Last year, about 88% of drivers and passengers buckled up, according to a 2021 seat belt survey. That number was down two percentage points from 2019 and lags behind the national rate of about 90%.
