Justice Dept. To Review Law Enforcement Response To Uvalde Mass Shooting

The review, which is being undertaken at the behest of Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, is tasked with providing "an independent account of law enforcement actions and responses that day, and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events," Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley said in a statement.

Florida 5th Grader Arrested For Mass Shooting Threat

A fifth-grade student in Florida was arrested Saturday for threatening to pull off a mass shooting via text messages, police said.

The 10-year-old boy, a student at Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral, was handcuffed and walked into a police cruiser Saturday evening for making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting.

Supreme Court May Soon Expand Gun Rights Amid Roiling Debate

The Supreme Court will soon issue its first major Second Amendment opinion in more than a decade, coming after a pair of recent mass shootings sent the nation reeling and reignited a tense debate over gun rights and public safety.

The conservative majority court is expected to rule in the coming days or weeks in a pending dispute over New York state’s tight limits on the concealed carry of handguns.

FDA Investigating Hepatitis A Outbreak Possibly Linked To Organic Strawberries

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating an outbreak of hepatitis A that is possibly linked to two brands of organic strawberries that were sold at several retailers in the U.S. and Canada.

FreshKampo and HEB branded strawberries purchased by consumers between March 5 and April 25 should not be eaten, according to the FDA.

The husband of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in California. Paul Pelosi was held after his Porsche was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Napa County on Saturday night.

Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals Breaks Ground On Massive Drug Manufacturing Plant In Wisconsin

Pasadena-based Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals Inc. earlier this month broke ground on a massive 285,000-square-foot drug manufacturing and support plant in Wisconsin.

The plant, located on 13 acres in Verona, a suburb of the state capital of Madison, is slated to be completed in 2024. It will consist of a 160,000-square-foot drug manufacturing facility and a 125,000-square-foot laboratory and office facility to support development and analytical activities. The lab and office complex are set to be completed next year. According to reports, the plant will cost about $250 million.

Colonel Heg Descendants Re-Dedicate Civil War Hero Statue To The People Of Wisconsin

The Colonel Hans Christian Heg statue was officially re-dedicated to the people of Wisconsin during a special ceremony on Sunday at the Capitol.

The statue was torn down after a social justice protest turned destructive outside of the state capitol building in June of 2020. It was re-attached in September of 2021.

The federal government owns 27.1% of all land in the United States, or 615.3 million of 2.27 billion acres. Federal lands are managed mostly for preservation, recreation, and the development of natural resources.

The Bureau of Land Management, a governmental division that manages public lands, controls 39.7% of federally owned lands. The Forest Service, in charge of national forests and grasslands, is responsible for 31.4% of federal land. The Fish and Wildlife Service, which manages 14.5% of public lands, is responsible for restoration and protection efforts related to endangered species, wildlife refuges, fisheries, and migratory birds. The National Park Service manages 13% of federal lands, and finally, the Department of Defense takes care of 1.4% of government property.
