Nikki Haley Wins DC Primary, First Victory For Campaign

Nikki Haley won her first presidential primary on Sunday. She just had to wait for the D.C. insider crowd to vote.

Haley defeated Donald Trump in the Washington, D.C. Republican primary, a contest that took place over the weekend in a downtown hotel just steps away from the heart of D.C.’s lobbying hub. Haley carried nearly 63 percent of the vote, according to D.C. party officials.

Supreme Court Likely To Include Trump Ballot Case In Opinions Issued Monday

The Supreme Court says it will release one or more opinions on Monday -- a day before the Super Tuesday primaries -- in an announcement widely expected to resolve a dispute over states' ability to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

The court had not previously been scheduled for a public sitting, when traditionally decisions in cases argued during the term would be read aloud and handed down. The justices will not take the bench, according to the high court's website.

Haiti Violence: Gangs Threaten Haiti Takeover After Mass Jailbreak

The government of Haiti declared a 72-hour state of emergency on Sunday after armed gangs stormed a major Port-au-Prince prison. At least 12 people were killed and about 3,700 inmates escaped in the jailbreak.

Gang leaders say they want to force the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who had travelled abroad. The groups aiming to oust him control around 80% of Port-au-Prince.

SpaceX, NASA Successfully Launch Manned Crew-8 Mission To International Space Station

SpaceX and NASA on Sunday successfully launched their joint Crew-8 mission to the International Space Station from the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Together, NASA and SpaceX launched a crew of four to the ISS in the Dragon spacecraft, marking SpaceX’s eighth crew rotation mission to the ISS within NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Sunday's launch was the third attempt, after it was scrubbed twice before because of bad weather.

Award-Winning ESPN NFL Reporter Chris Mortensen Dies At 72

Chris Mortensen, an award-winning journalist who reported on the NFL for ESPN for more than three decades, died Sunday morning at the age of 72, his family announced.

Mortensen joined ESPN in 1991 and was a regular contributor to the network's NFL shows and "SportsCenter." He was a regular news breaker for ESPN, including the news in 2016 that quarterback Peyton Manning was retiring from the NFL.

Alex Kudrna owns Backyard Dream Productions in Kenosha. In the last year, three larger clients, including the TV show “Judge Mathis,” approached him to use his studio. “That just died because we don’t have film incentives, so they ended up going to L.A.,” Kudrna said.

Kudrna’s story isn’t a unique one — Wisconsin is one of five states that doesn’t have a dedicated film office and one of 10 that doesn’t offer any production incentives for filmmakers.

Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigation In Janesville, Wis.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved critical incident (OICI) in Janesville, Wis. that occurred on the evening of Friday, March 1, 2024.

The Janesville Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding an armed subject in the 1200 block of N. Parker Street in the City of Janesville. When they arrived, officers made contact with the armed subject. The subject refused to exit the residence and two other subjects were unable to safely exit the residence. An officer discharged their weapon striking the armed subject. The subject died on the scene due to their injuries. A firearm was located at the scene.

State Supreme Court Rejects Request To Redraw Congressional Maps

A unanimous state Supreme Court Friday rejected a request to redraw Wisconsin’s congressional lines ahead of the 2024 elections.

The court didn’t offer an explanation for its decision to deny the petition from a group of Dem voters that had hoped the justices would redraw the lines after tossing out the legislative maps that were used in the 2022 elections.
