January 6 Hearings: What To Expect As Focus Turns To Trump Election Lies

Monday marks the second day of public hearings for the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The committee said it will focus on then-President Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election that inspired his supporters to lay siege to the Capitol in an attempt to block the formalization of President Joe Biden's victory. The panel is seeking to build on its prime-time presentation last week of never-before-seen video of interviews with Trump’s inner circle and graphic images of the attack.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET.

President Biden’s bet on a rapid rebound from the coronavirus recession may have backfired. 

The president and his top economic officials rallied Democrats around a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill in March 2021, urging Congress not to repeat the mistakes of the Great Recession and cut off support for the economy too soon. The bill was also Biden’s way of delivering on the promise made during the pivotal Georgia Senate runoffs, which gave his party a slim Senate majority: elect Democrats and get another round of stimulus checks.

A cross-party group of US senators have agreed a framework for potential legislation on gun safety, following a spate of mass shootings.

This would include support for tougher checks for buyers aged under 21 and cracking down on illegal gun purchases.

Crucially, the proposals are supported by 10 Republicans, meaning they have the numbers to be voted into law.

President Biden said the plans were "steps in the right direction" but they fall far short of what he called for.

Federal securities regulators have expanded their investigation into the planned merger between a blank check acquisition company and former President Trump's social media business, known as Truth Social, according to a Monday morning filing with the SEC.

Wisconsin Elections Commission Allows Tim Michels To Run For Wisconsin Governor

Wisconsin elections officials voted Friday to allow Donald Trump’s endorsed candidate to stay on the Republican primary ballot in the presidential battleground state, pushing aside a Democratic challenge to his nomination papers.

The bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission voted unanimously to allow construction company co-owner Tim Michels to appear on the ballot.

Chair Of Wisconsin Parole Commission Resigns

John Tate, the chairman of the Wisconsin Parole Commission, has resigned his position effective Friday.

In his resignation letter, which Gov. Tony Evers’ office shared with News 3 Now, Tate said he gave his “effort to be fair, just, and understanding” while making parole decisions.

Preliminary 2022 Spring Turkey Harvest Increases From 2021

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that preliminary totals show Wisconsin turkey hunters registered 39,007 birds during the 2022 spring turkey hunting season, a 5% increase from the 37,266 birds registered in the spring 2021 season.

The 2022 spring season started on April 16 with the two-day youth hunt. The regular season was divided into six separate one-week periods from April 20 to May 31. Different periods maximize hunter opportunities while minimizing interference for a more sustainable harvest.
