Man Charged With Exposing Himself To Children

SAWYER COUNTY -- A Couderay man is facing felony charges of exposing himself to multiple children following LCO Tribal Police investigation.

Felony charges have been filed in Sawyer County Circuit Court against Matthew Baker, of Couderay, WI, following an investigation by the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department into reports that Baker had exposed himself to multiple children living near his residence.

Sawyer County Dispatch received a call on June 25, 2019, stating that Baker was exposing himself to children in the neighborhood surrounding his residence, according to a criminal complaint filed against Baker.

An Officer with the LCO Tribal Police Department was dispatched regarding the reports, and after speaking with the adults who made the call to Sawyer County Dispatch, interviewed at least three children.

The children told the Officers that over a period of 2-3 days at the end of June 2019, Baker had been outside his residence and in the presence of the children had pulled his pants down, exposing both his rear and his front on different occasions.

The children also stated that there were at least 2 other children in the area when the incidents occurred, the criminal complaint goes on to say.

One of the adults interviewed by law enforcement also stated that Baker had recently made unusual requests such as giving a television and an Xbox gaming console to one of the children.

The Officer made contact with Baker on June 25, 2019. Baker denied that any such incidents of exposing himself to children had occurred.

Online circuit court records show that Baker has been charged with 1 count of Class D Felony Child Enticement-Expose Genitals/Pubic Area/Intimate Parts, and 2 counts of Class I Felony Exposing Genitals/Pubic Area/Intimate Parts to a Child.

Baker is scheduled to have an Initial Appearance on his charges in August 2019.

No information regarding any bail bond for Baker was available in online circuit court record at the time of this post.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
