BURNETT COUNTY - An intense early morning encounter unfolds in Grantsburg as a male confronts EMS with a firearm, leading to a subsequent standoff with law enforcement, shots fired, and the suspect's hospitalization, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 2, 2023 at approximately 4:00 a.m. Burnett County Dispatch was notified of a male lying on a road in the Village of Grantsburg. EMS was sent to check on him. The male became combative with EMS and pointed a firearm at EMS personnel. A Grantsburg Fire Department member was able to get the male to surrender the firearm before law enforcement arrived.
The male went to his residence a short distance away. After law enforcement arrived the male emerged from his home with another firearm. Shots were fired and the male was taken into custody and transported to the hospital. No one was seriously injured.
This incident is under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
