Jury Trial Underway for Man Accused of Killing Rusk County Deputy Dan Glaze

The first week of the Jury Trial for Doug Nitek, charged in the shooting death of Rusk County Deputy Dan Glaze, is well underway.

WEAU says that the State of Wisconsin has called dozens of witnesses over these first four days, including Dan Glaze’s wife, Sarah Glaze, who was the first witness to testify for the State of Wisconsin, telling the jury about her husband and presenting a photo of Dan with his son and daughter.

Throughout these first days of the trial, the jury has heard testimony from numerous law enforcement officers as well as several experts from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab.

The Remington bolt-action rifle that was used to kill Glaze was brought into the Court on Friday, September 21, 2018, and WQOW states that experts from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab testified about matching Nitek’s DNA to that gun, as well as matching the gun to bullet casings found at the scene.

During these first days of the trial, the State of Wisconsin has worked to prove through testimony that Nitek knowingly shot and killed Deputy Glaze the night of October 29, 2016. Nitek’s defense team continues to maintain that Nitek was only protecting his property.

Online circuit court records show that on the morning of September 21, 2018, defense counsel for Nitek made a motion for a Mistrial regarding testimony of a witness (name not specified) from September 20, 2018. The Court reviewed the testimony and found that it was not prejudicial and denied the motion for a mistrial.

Testimony from witnesses is expected to continue tomorrow, Saturday, September 22, 2018.

Nitek’s trial scheduled to go through October 5, 2018.
