Judge Drops 6th OWI Case: New Information Prompts Dismissal For Spooner Man

WASHBURN COUNTY (DrydenWire) - Charges of OWI that were filed against a Spooner, WI, man in 2021 have been dismissed. Timothy Ganz, age 63, was arrested in January 2021 by the Wisconsin State Patrol and later charged criminally with Operating While Intoxicated 6th Offense.

The charges against Ganz stem from an incident on January 30, 2021, when the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to a vehicle in a ditch on Fox Road near County Road N shortly after 2:30a.

Charges were subsequently filed against Ganz in February 2021 and after many court hearings, a jury trial was held in March 2024, however, according to online court records, the Court declared a mistrial. Details on the reason for the mistrial are not included in online court.

Ganz appeared most recently for a court hearing on April 22, 2024, and the Hon. Judge John Anderson reviewed a motion to dismiss the case filed against Ganz.

DrydenWire obtained a copy of the motion which states, “The state is in receipt of new information causing doubt as to its ability to meet its burden of proof at further trial.”
