Ladysmith, WI -- Indianhead Community Action Agency, Inc. (ICAA) is excited to announce that they were chosen to receive a $10,000 grant from the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation to help support homeless veterans in 19 counties throughout northwestern Wisconsin.
ICAA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program is dedicated to doing their part to assist homeless veterans and their families by providing temporary housing for emergencies, with a focus on getting veterans into secure, permanent housing. The SSVF program also provides case management services to assist veterans with other facets of their life, including job placement, healthcare navigation, mental health referrals, and financial assistance for housing.
Since the program’s creation in 2013, the SSVF team has helped over 350 veterans and their families find housing.
The SSVF program’s director, Rachel Stilwell, expressed her gratitude for the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation, saying, “We work hard to help homeless veterans get into housing, to keep them safe, and this funding from the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation gives us a chance to do even more. These funds will be used to purchase groceries, warm clothing, gas cards, and other necessities that we could not provide previously. We are thankful that the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation has allowed us to help champion their cause for Veteran services, and we look forward to working together to create more equity for those in need.”
