Create Your Own Meme in 6 Easy Steps

Create Your Own Meme in 6 Easy Steps

In this week's Thursday Tech on DrydenWire, we will show you how to create your own meme using a Meme Generator, in this case, from ImgFlip.com.  There are many Meme Generator sites out there, but we find this one the simplest to use when we want to quickly upload our own images. This gets fun when you take a picture of a family member, for example, make a meme out of it and send it to that person (and everyone else in your family) or post on Facebook for a good laugh.  Or use it for good. Your choice.

ImgFlip describes their Meme Generator as a free online image maker that allows you to add custom resizable text to images. It operates in HTML5 if supported, so your images are created instantly. Most commonly, people use the generator to add text captions to established memes, so technically it's more of a meme "captioner" than a meme maker. However, you can also upload your own images as templates, which is what we will be focusing on today.

Step 1

Using your desktop/laptop, Go to https://imgflip.com/memegenerator and you will see this screen below.  Click UPLOAD YOUR OWN IMAGE

Step 2

Click CHOOSE FILE to use an image that you have saved.  **Remember, you can always use the template images provided.

Step 3

Select Image and UPLOAD.  After you select the image you want to you use from your computer, it will now show the name of the file/image next to Choose File.  In this case, I selected an image that has a file name of princess.jpg.  Click UPLOAD to have your image appear in the preview box.

Step 4

Add your TEXT to the image by typing in the boxes.

Step 5

Check the PRIVATE box (again, we are making a meme just for you to share whenever & wherever YOU want), and click GENERATE MEME

Step 6

Finally, click DOWNLOAD IMAGE and save it to your hard drive to use whenever you would like.

Tips & Info from ImgFlip

How can I customize my meme?

  • You can move and resize the text boxes by dragging them around. If you're on a mobile device, you may have to first check "enable drag/drop" in the More Options section.
  • You can customize the font color, outline color, and outline width just to the right of where you type your text.
  • You can further customize the font and add additional text boxes in the More Options section.
  • You can rotate your meme, add scumbag hats or other custom images, and draw on your meme using the panel just above the meme preview image.

Why is there an "imgflip.com" watermark on my memes?

The Imgflip watermark helps other people find where the meme was created, so they can make memes too! However, if you'd really like to, you can remove our watermark from all images you create, as well as remove ads and supercharge your image creation abilities, using Imgflip Pro.
