RUSK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday morning, the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a distressing incident on Fireside Lake. Three individuals engaged in ice fishing had fallen through the ice, prompting a swift and coordinated response from local homeowners and emergency services.
Initially, the reports indicated that 2-3 subjects were submerged in the frigid waters. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that only one individual was in immediate danger. Quick-thinking local homeowners, armed with ropes and a sled, took matters into their own hands, successfully pulling the stranded ice fisher from the freezing lake before the arrival of emergency services.
The heroic homeowners provided crucial aid to the rescued individual until the Rusk County Ambulance Service and other emergency teams reached the scene. The patient was promptly treated on-site and later transported by EMS to MMC-Rice Lake for further medical attention.
The collaboration between agencies was instrumental in managing the incident. The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, Rusk County Ambulance Service, Bruce Fire Department, Chetek Fire Department Dive Team, Chetek Ambulance Service, and Lifelink III worked seamlessly to ensure a comprehensive and effective response.
