SAWYER COUNTY — Hayward Police responded to a burglary at Ace Hardware where multiple handguns were allegedly stolen leading to multiple search warrants being executed, according to a press release from the Hayward Police Department.
(Press Release) — On Wednesday, January 16th, 2019, at approximately 4:30 a.m., The City of Hayward Police Department responded to a call for a burglary at the Ace Hardware Store within the city limits. Multiple handguns were stolen during the burglary. During the course of a four-day investigation, three suspects were identified as the individuals responsible for the crime. The suspects are all male and two are 18 years old, and one 16 year old. All three of the male subjects are currently living in the community.
On Monday, January 21, 2019, The City of Hayward Police Department applied for multiple search warrants and was assisted by the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department, and Sawyer County Tactical Respond Team.
During the course of the investigation and execution of the search warrants, the two 18 year old males were taken into custody and two of the stolen firearms from the burglary were recovered. Officers also recovered clothing that was consistent with items used during the commission of the crimes.
This investigation is still ongoing and other leads are currently being followed up on.
