The Grantsburg Rotary Club has completed the first phase of a tree planting project for Riverside Cemetery. One of this year’s goals for Rotary International is to plant a tree for each member worldwide.
Riverside Cemetery has lost many large old trees in the past few years due to age and wind storms.
Rotary members Roger Inouye, Peter Johnson, Dick Erickson and Gordy Lewis planted a row of red maples in the newer part of the cemetery.
Community members and their families and friends will also have the opportunity to support the project by the purchase of a tree or several trees. The gift of $100 to Riverside Cemetery toward the project will add your name to the sign near the entrance to document the “Rotary Tree Project.” A brass plaque of uniform size on the sign will have the names of “Trees Planted In Memory Of” or “In Honor Of” your loved ones, or it can be just your name.
Donations to Riverside Cemetery are tax deductible as it is a 501(c)(3) organization. Make checks payable to Riverside Cemetery and mail them to Betty Peer, Treasurer at 22847 Akermark Rd., Grantsburg, Wi 54840 or give them to any Rotary member. Please include name(s) you want on the plaque.
Grantsburg Rotary Club members planted five red maple tree along S Robert Street and another 10 in other areas of the Riverside Cemetery in Grantsburg as part of a tree replacement project. They hope to continue to project in coming years with trees donated by the public in memory of a loved one.
Rotary is working with Riverside Cemetery and Wood River Garden Store to determine the best location for each type of tree and the planting of the trees.
