Free skating, free food and big energy policy events headline Prosperity is Possible tour around Wisconsin this week.

It was another busy week around Wisconsin for the Americans for Prosperity team last week. Carrying the message that Prosperity is Possible, the team hosted events in Grand Chute, Sherwood, Fond du Lac, Superior, Waukesha, Tomah, Pewaukee, Dresser, Milwaukee, and Hudson.

Americans for Prosperity held two major events geared toward energy policy in Wisconsin this week. The first in Superior, brought together staff from Americans for Prosperity, along with Congressman Tom Tiffany, State Senator Romaine Quinn, State Representative Angie Sapik, Wisconsin Manufacturing and Commerce, Dairyland Co-Op, and Cenovus for a press conference to pressure the City of Superior mayor and city council to approve a zoning permit for a natural gas plant project in Superior.

The project has already received approval from 14 state and federal agencies, but the city so far has refused to grant the zoning permit to allow the Nemadji Trail Energy Center project to be built. The project is slated to begin construction this year, with the plant coming online to deliver reliable, clean, natural gas power to the region in 2028.

In Sherwood, just a few miles outside of Appleton, dozens of residents showed up for a discussion about energy policy related to everything from wind, solar, nuclear, and even how rate cases are brought forward to the Public Service Commission. Wisconsin rate payers currently pay the second highest rates in the Midwest and thanks to efforts of Americans for Prosperity and groups like Wisconsin Industrial Energy Group, we convinced legislators to prevent the passage of the Right of First Refusal bill this session, which would have given a monopoly to incumbent power utilities in the state to build high power transmission line projects without competitive bidding. If that bill passed, Wisconsin rate payers would have seen significant increases in their energy bills on top of the 30% increases we’ve seen in the last few years.

In Grand Chute, almost 150 turned out for a free roller-skating event, providing inflation relief for families who have cut back on entertainment to ensure they can afford their day to day living expenses. In Fond du Lac, staff from the Green Bay, Appleton, and Sheboygan areas held a meet and greet with beers and pizza for people interested in learning more about Americans for Prosperity and its mission to uphold free market principles and fighting for less government interference so every American has an opportunity to succeed.

Events in Tomah and Pewaukee focused on educating people about wasteful government spending and what average citizens can and need to do to put pressure on our federal legislators and federal government to cut back on spending.

In Milwaukee, that same message was shared with a twist. An NBA 2K video game tournament brought participants in for a day of fun and learning about how cutting government spending has to be a slam dunk priority for the future of our country.
