MADISON, WIS. – Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Joanne T. Huehn, 42, formerly of Milltown, Wis., was sentenced for stealing from the mail while an employee of the U.S. Postal Service. U.S. District Judge William M. Conley sentenced Huehn to five years of probation. Huehn pleaded guilty to this offense on May 15, 2018.
Huehn admitted that while employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Polk County, she stole Menards rebate checks from postal customers and used them to purchase items for her personal use. Her scheme was uncovered when a postal customer told a rural postal carrier that someone had used the customer’s Menards rebate check. The postal customer had obtained a photograph of the person using his rebate check from Menards security and the carrier recognized Huehn as the individual depicted in the photograph.
Judge Conley ordered Huehn to pay restitution to the victims of the rebate check thefts and to the U.S. Postal Service for money she admitted stealing from cash registers at post offices, in an amount totaling $5,376.
The charges against Huehn are the result of an investigation by the U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, with the cooperation of Menards. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Chadwick Elgersma.
