The former Police Chief of Clayton, WI has been sentenced in Polk County Circuit Court regarding his criminal charges stemming from allegations of sexual misconduct.
DrydenWire.com reported on September 11, 2017, that Grant Pickard was facing charges of 4 counts of Class I Felony Misconduct in Office / Excess Authority, 2 counts of Misdemeanor 4th degree sexual assault, 1 count of Misdemeanor Lewd, Lascivious Behavior, and 1 count of Misdemeanor Computer Message – Threaten/Obscenity.
The charges against Pickard stemmed from a report that he had allegedly sexually assaulted a subordinate officer in the summer of 2016 and then continued to subject her to unwanted touching, texting and other sexual contacts after the original incident.
According to a media outlet in Polk County, the female victim in the case alleged that the sexual assault occurred while they were both intoxicated. Pickard admitted to the sexual contact in 2016, however, he stated that all sexual contact and communication between himself and the alleged victim was consensual.
According to online circuit court records, at a hearing in Polk County Circuit Court on July 10, 2018, the Court accepted pleas of No Contest from Pickard to his charges of Misdemeanor Computer Message-Threaten/Obscenity and Misdemeanor Lewd, Lascivious Behavior-Exposure.
One of the counts of Class I Felony Misconduct/Office-Act/Excess Authority was dismissed without prejudice, meaning that this charge could potentially be re-filed should the State of Wisconsin decide to. The rest of Pickard’s charges, including 1 count of Class G Felony 3rd Degree Sexual Assault and 2 counts of Misdemeanor 4th degree sexual assault, were dismissed with prejudice, which means that those charges are dismissed permanently.
Online circuit court records show that Pickard was sentenced to 60 days in Polk County Jail for his conviction of Misdemeanor Computer Message-Threaten/Obscenity. The Court also ordered an Imposed and Stayed sentence of 9 months for Pickard’s conviction of Misdemeanor Lewd, Lascivious Behavior-Exposure with probation for up to 1 year.
In addition, the Court ordered Pickard to undergo a Psychosexual evaluation, and as well as an Alcohol and other Drug Assessment.
The Court did not order Pickard to register with the Sex Offender Registry.
