High Speed Chase Leads To Felony Charges Filed Against Chetek Woman

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Criminal charges have been filed against Stacy Ramirez, of Chetek, WI following a high speed pursuit that occurred on State Highway 53 after a Washburn County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle.

On September 14, 2019 shortly before 10:30a, a Washburn County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the Veteran’s Center on State Highway 53 to investigate a suspicious vehicle that was reported to have been parked there for several days.

When the Deputy checked the vehicle, he was able to see a female sleeping inside the vehicle. One of the windows was partially open, and the Deputy announced himself, waking the female.

The vehicle registration indicated that the owner was Stacy Ramirez, however the female inside the vehicle provided a different name to the Deputy, stating that she didn’t have an ID, according to the criminal complaint.

She went on to tell the Deputy that she was parked there because she was homeless. The Deputy told the female to stay in the vehicle while he checked her information. After returning to his squad vehicle, the Deputy observed the female get out of the vehicle, then re-enter the vehicle, and then suddenly exit the parking lot at a high rate of speed.

Activating his squad car lights, the Deputy took pursuit of the vehicle, following it southbound on State Highway 53. Traffic flow on the highway was medium density at times, and according to the criminal complaint, the suspect vehicle continued travelling into Barron County at high rates of speed; up to 127 miles per hour at times, even passing some vehicles on the far right shoulder of the highway.

The suspect vehicle initially eluded law enforcement by suddenly taking an exit ramp near Haugen, WI. The Deputy was unable to slow sufficiently to also take the exit, but observed the suspect vehicle travelling westbound on County Highway V.

The Deputy provided pertinent information regarding the incident to Washburn County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch and confirmed that the female driver of the suspect vehicle matched the descriptors for Stacy Ramirez.

Washburn County Sheriff’s Office Jail Booking Report dated September 23, 2019 indicates that 4 days after the high speed pursuit, on September 18, 2019, Stacy Ramirez was booked in on charges including Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer - Reckless Driving-Endanger Safety and Probation Hold. Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
