Charges have been filed against two men following a drug bust by Shell Lake Police Department on December 15, 2016.
William Tate, of Trail, Oregon, and Monte Yates, of Gold Hill, Oregon, were located by the Shell Lake Police Department at a Shell Lake residence after a call was received by law enforcement regarding the smell of marijuana being smoked.
According to documents on public record, Washburn County Sheriff's Office assisted the Shell Lake Police Department in a search of the residence. During the search officers located approximately 40 grams of marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia as well as a variety of unlabeled pills. Both men were taken into custody at that time.
William Tate is charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and is being held on a cash bond. On December 22, 2016, the Court found that there is probable cause to bind Tate over for trial and he remains in the custody of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office at the time of this story. Tate is scheduled to appear again on his charges on January 23, 2017.
Monte Yates is also charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and is also currently being held on a cash bond.
Public record shows that Yates had previously been charged in Washburn County Circuit Court in 2015 with Felony Possession of Marijuana. He was scheduled to appear in October of 2015 on that charge but did not appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest at that time.
On December 19, 2016, Monte Yates' defense attorney made a motion to the Court to modify Yates' new bond conditions, however, that motion was denied. Yates is due back in court on January 18, 2017, on both of his Washburn County cases.
