POLK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A St. Croix Falls woman is facing felony charges after police uncovered a harrowing scene on her property: two dozen emaciated cats, overwhelming filth, and the remains of seventeen dead cats inside her home.

Authorities, who had previously had contact with her regarding her animals, say 70-year-old Myrna Westen left the cats trapped in squalid conditions while she went on vacation. Westen now faces felony and misdemeanor charges of animal mistreatment.
