WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a Spooner, WI woman on a conviction of 4th Offense Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) stemming from a traffic stop in April 2017 for erratic driving.

DrydenWire reported in June 2017, that Law Enforcement responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver in the City of Spooner. After locating the vehicle described by the caller, an Officer conducted a traffic stop for erratic driving after observing the vehicle swerving and crossing the centerline with a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as April Schlapper. A preliminary breath test result indicated a breath alcohol level of 0.235.

Felony charges of 4th Offense OWI were filed against Schlapper, and online circuit court records show that her case was scheduled to go to Jury Trial 5 different times. Details are not listed as to why the trials did not occur, but at a hearing on January 19, 2021, the Court accepted a plea of guilty from Schlapper.
