RUSK COUNTY -- A man has been sentenced to serve prison time for his conviction in a fatal hit and run incident that occurred in Ladysmith, WI on February 22, 2017.
Michael S. Niles, of Ladysmith, WI, was sentenced in Rusk County Circuit Court on August 14, 2018 for his conviction of Class E Felony Hit and Run-Involve Great Bodily Harm, and Class D Felony Hit and Run-Involve Death.
A press release issued at the time of the incident, when law enforcement responded to the report of a motor vehicle hit and run crash in the City of Ladysmith, WI on February 22, 2018, Joseph Hraban, the victim, was found lying next to his truck. He later succumbed to his injuries at Rusk County Memorial Hospital.
The Court heard statements from family members of the victim. Family members of Niles also gave statements to the Court, according to online circuit court records.
Niles was sentenced to 10 years initial confinement in State Prison for his conviction of Class D Felony Hit and Run-Involve Death, to be followed by 8 years of extended supervision. He was also sentenced to 4 years of confinement in State Prison and 3 years of extended supervision for his conviction of Class E Felony Hit and Run-Involve Great Bodily Harm, to be served concurrently.
