SAWYER COUNTY -- Felony Charges have been filed and a cash bond of $100,000 has been ordered for a Minnesota man following a traffic stop in Sawyer County which resulted in his arrest and the discovery and seizure of heroin, meth, cocaine, and marijuana.

DrydenWire.com previously published a press release from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office regarding the arrest of James Q. Griffin, of Minneapolis, MN, after a traffic stop for a seat belt violation led to Griffin’s arrest and the subsequent seizure of heroin, meth, cocaine, and marijuana found on his person.

A Sawyer County Sheriff’s Deputy was on patrol on January 24, 2020 shortly after 10:30a when a vehicle passed the deputy’s location with a driver who was not wearing a seatbelt. The Deputy conducted a traffic stop, and requested assistance from another Sheriff’s Office Deputy. Sawyer County K9 arrived on scene to assist.

While the first Deputy was issuing a traffic violation citation to Griffin, the K9 unit performed a check on the vehicle and the K9 partner alerted to the presence of controlled substances in the vehicle.

A small amount of marijuana was located inside the vehicle. Griffin was taken into custody and
transported to the Sawyer County Jail. While being booked into the Jail, a baseball sized ball holding 4 vacuum sealed baggies was found on Griffin’s person. According to the criminal complaint filed against Griffin the first baggie contained 64 grams of heroin; the second baggie contained 23.9 grams of meth; the third baggie contained 5 grams of cocaine; and the fourth baggie contained 1.9 grams of marijuana.

Griffin is charged with Class C Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin (>50G), Second or Subsequent Offense; Class D Felony Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Second or Subsequent Offense; Class F Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine (>1-5G), Second and Subsequent Offense; and Class I Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver THC (Tetrahydrocannabinols)(<=200G), Second and Subsequent Offense.

Previously Griffin was convicted of Felony Drugs-3rd Degree - Possess 3 Grams or More Cocaine/Heroin/Methamphetamine in the State of Minnesota, Hennepin County. Online circuit court records show that Griffin was placed on a $100,000 cash bond at a hearing on January 28, 2020. He appeared most recently on February 12, 2020 and is scheduled to appear again in March 2020.
