Court Accepts Plea Deal On Attempted Homicide Case; Revokes Bond

WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Court has accepted a plea deal and revoked bail bond for Shaun Higgins, charged with attempted homicide in Washburn County following an incident in February 2021.

Higgins was charged with Class B Felony Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide; Class G Felony Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and two charges of Class I Felony Criminal Damage to Property after he drove a UTV over another person.

The criminal complaint filed against Higgins states that he engaged in an argument with another patron of a bar and attempted to initiate a fight with the person before being restrained and escorted from the bar.

Higgins got into a UTV, and yelled “I’m gonna kill you!”, before accelerating the UTV in the direction of the patron with whom he had argued, striking the individual with the UTV, and driving it over them.

Higgins then backed the UTV up and spun it around in a “donut” striking two other vehicles in the parking lot, shouted “I’m gonna kill you!”, and drove the UTV over the individual a second time.

A 5-day-jury trial was scheduled to start on May 9, 2022, for Higgins’ case, however, on May 9, the Court accepted a plea agreement proposed by defense counsel and the District Attorney.

Higgins entered a plea of guilty to his charges of Class G Felony Second Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, and two charges of Class I Felony Criminal Damage to Property. The charge of Class B Felony Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide was dismissed but read in.

Online circuit court records show that the Court heard a statement from a victim in the case, which included a request to revoke Higgins’ bail bond. The Court did revoke bond for Higgins and online jail records show that he is in the custody of the Washburn County jail at the time of this post. Higgins is set to appear again for a sentencing hearing in July 2022.
