POLK COUNTY — A man facing felony sexual assault charges in Polk County, WI has entered into a Deferred Acceptance of Guilty Plea agreement.
DrydenWire.com reported in October 2018 that Dalton Sawyer, a Minnesota resident, was facing felony charges in Polk County Circuit Court following an investigation by Polk County Law Enforcement into allegations that Sawyer sexually assaulted an adult female.
In April 2018, Polk County Dispatch received a call reporting that a sexual assault had occurred only minutes prior to the call. When law enforcement responded, the victim of the alleged assault stated that although she had repeatedly told Sawyer no, he had sexual intercourse with her, according to a criminal complaint filed against Sawyer. When questioned about the alleged assault by law enforcement, Sawyer responded by saying, “Nothing happened, she is only trying to get me in trouble.”
Charges of Class G Felony Third Degree Sexual Assault were filed against Sawyer in September 2018 and after numerous hearings, the case was scheduled for a Jury Trial in October 2019, however, at a recent hearing, Sawyer entered a plea of No Contest to the charge of Sexual Assault, and also plead Guilty to an additional charge of Misdemeanor Resisting or Obstructing an Officer.
The Court accepted Sawyer’s plea of Guilty to the Misdemeanor charge, and also accepted a 2 year DGAP (Deferred Guilty Plea Agreement) regarding the Felony Sexual Assault charge. Sawyer was ordered to serve 1 year of probation regarding his misdemeanor conviction. Details of the conditions of Sawyer’s DGAP were not listed in online records, but the Court did order Sawyer to comply with all requirements of supervision, and ordered him to have no intentional contact with the victim in the case.
