WASHBURN COUNTY, WI - The Washburn County Sheriff's Office has issued a public notification regarding the upcoming release of Jeffrey Colegrove, a convicted sex offender, on July 2, 2024.

Notification and Supervision

The decision to notify the community about Colegrove's whereabouts was made by a core team responsible for reviewing Special Sex Offender Bulletin Notifications forwarded by the Department of Corrections (DOC). According to the Sheriff's Office, Colegrove will remain under close supervision by local Probation Agents.

Strict Rules and Monitoring

Colegrove is required to follow specific and detailed rules prescribed by the DOC, including:

  • No unsupervised contact with minors
  • Cooperation with lifetime electronic monitoring
  • Lifetime registration with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registration Program

The Sheriff's Office has stated that Colegrove is "currently releasing as homeless" and will be subject to GPS monitoring through the DOC.

Community Awareness and Safety

In a statement, the Sheriff's Office emphasized the importance of community awareness, saying, "Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it wasn't until Act 440 in 1997 which enabled law enforcement to share this information with the community. This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public."

The release of Colegrove serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
