Closing Arguments Anticipated for 8th Day in Nitek Jury Trial

According to online circuit court records, both the State’s prosecution team and the defense counsel team for Doug Nitek have rested their cases at the jury trial being held in Dunn County Courthouse regarding the charges filed against Nitek surrounding the shooting death of Rusk County Deputy Dan Glaze, and closing arguments are anticipated as the next stage of the trial.

Prosecuting attorneys for the State of Wisconsin rested their case on Saturday, September 22, 2018 following additional testimony from State’s witnesses and the introduction of numerous exhibits.

A break was taken on Sunday, September 23, 2018, and defense counsel for Nitek rested their case shortly after the trial resumed on Monday morning, September 24, 2018.

Defense made motions to dismiss many of the counts filed against Nitek, and online circuit court records show that the Court granted some of those motions; dismissing several counts of 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety-Use of a Dangerous Weapon, and Felony Bail Jump-Use of a Dangerous Weapon as well as dismissing a count of Felony Possess Firearm-Convicted of a Felony.

WEAU.com reports that following the announcement from Nitek’s defense team that they were resting, Judge Scott Needham asked a series of questions to Nitek regarding the fact that he was relinquishing his right to testify; ultimately allowing Nitek’s decision.

Court went into recess just before 1:00 PM on September 24, 2018, and according to WQOW.com prosecution for the State was requesting that closing arguments be presented Tuesday morning, September 25, 2018.
