K-9 'Koda' Apprehends Man Hiding in Attic

(Press Release) -- On Friday December 23, 2016 at 12:41pm the Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to a house at 1442 Dallas St in the City of Chetek looking for a suspect who was involved in an accident on Thursday and also had several arrest warrants ranging from Failure to Pay Child Support-Felony, Battery, Resisting Arrest, Possession of THC and Bail Jumping. The suspect was Jacob Rheingans 38 of this address.

Due to the nature of his previous arrests, a Barron County K-9 was called into to assist in the apprehension of this suspect.  Deputies surrounded the residence with the assistance of the Chetek Police Department and called for the suspect to exit his residence.  Two people did exit the residence and advised Jacob was in the house.  After several attempts for him to exit K-9 Koda was sent in.  He was not located in the living area of the house.  Deputies then conducted a search and did not locate him.

An attic was located and deputies made numerous commands for Rheingans to exit the attic and no one exited. Pepper spray was sprayed into the attic with the attempt to have the person exit for the safety of the deputies.  Again no one exited.

K-9 Koda was then lifted into the attic and began to search.  A short time later a subject began to yell and K-9 Koda had apprehended the subject hiding in the attic.  Deputy Carroll went into the attic and took Rheingans into custody.

Rheingans is being treated at Barron Hospital and when cleared will be taken to the Barron County Jail on the warrants and a new charge of resisting arrest.
